App compatibility & limitations

SmartStick and its app provide recreational fishing information. They are not navigation, weather-warning, emergency, rescue, or other safety systems. Observe your surroundings directly and use official information and appropriate independent safety equipment.

Location, weather, water, recorded activity, inferred events, and other information shown by the app may be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, out of date, or unavailable. An inferred bite or fishing pattern is an estimate, not a guarantee. Missing alerts or data do not mean that conditions are safe or that no event occurred. Do not use app information to decide whether it is safe to fish, travel, remain on the water, or approach a storm.

Features depend on the supported phone, operating system, app version, settings, permissions, and connections applicable to that feature. Bluetooth communication can be interrupted. Phone location and online services may require enabled permissions, a usable location signal, and internet access. Third-party services may change, stop operating, or be unavailable in some locations. Previously stored information may remain visible after a connection or service is lost; check its date and source when available.

The current app requires an iPhone running iOS 15.0 or later, or an Android phone running Android 7.0 (API level 24) or later with Bluetooth Low Energy support. Meeting these installation requirements does not guarantee every feature will operate on every phone. Use only the published supported configurations. A feature described here is not a promise that it is included in every app version. Check the release-specific compatibility and feature information. Stop in a safe place before viewing or operating your phone; never rely on continuous app monitoring for personal safety.

Permissions and connections

Enable Bluetooth and the Bluetooth/Nearby Devices permissions requested by your phone to connect a rod. The Android app also requests location permission during connection setup. Location-based features require location services and permission. Camera or photo access is needed only for features that use them. Notifications and phone settings affect whether alerts are presented.

Online features and availability

Conditions Matching, the location heatmap, and place search require internet access. Account, subscription and cloud services also depend on network and service availability. Weather data is attributed to Visual Crossing. Coverage and useful matches depend on available data and fishing history; results may be unavailable for a location. Free and Pro features differ as described in the app. Do not assume every feature works offline or in every region.

Rod compatibility

Use the app with an Excelscion SmartStick supplied and supported by Excelscion. The sealed rod firmware is managed by Excelscion; there is no user firmware-update procedure. Contact support if the rod cannot connect or reports unexpected behavior. A compatible operating system alone does not establish that a particular phone and rod combination has been tested.
